When the projects are published?

Most of the projects will be published during March of the year in which the projects will take place.

In case that projects will be fixed later they will be published later. The Calendar of Projects will be permanently updated.

World Heritage Volunteers Projects will be published when UNESCO World Heritage Centre will have finalised the global project list what is usually expected to happen during April.

Which costs participants have to cover?

At all projects accommodation, food, the educational and cultural programme and the travel costs during the project are covered by European Heritage Volunteers resp. the Project Partner. Depending on the regulations in the particular country health insurance, accidence insurance and / or liability insurance might be covered by European Heritage Volunteers or the Project Partner, too.

The travel costs to and from the project place have to be covered by the participants.

For European Heritage Volunteers Projects and European Heritage Volunteers Partner Projects participants have to pay a participation fee of 90 € per project, at projects taking place in cities with more than 100.000 inhabitants onwards, an additional fee of 30 €, thus in total 120 € per project.

For European Heritage Training Courses participants have to pay a participation fee of 120 € per Training Course, at Training Courses taking place in cities with more than 100.000 inhabitants onwards, an additiinal fee of 30 €, thus 150 € per Training Course.

The participation fee will be used to support the projects depending on their needs. In average, European Heritage Volunteers provides 85 % of the received participation fees as direct support for the projects. In case that a project is organised by an economically strong partner in a wealthy - mostly Western European - country European Heritage Volunteers does not provide additional support; in case that a project is organised by a partner in a poorer country the support can achieve up to the double amount of all participation fees generated for the particular project.

In addition, European Heritage Volunteers covers the training and the allowance for the Group Coordinators.

Participants will not have to pay any fee to the Project Partner.

Application process

You can apply for one or more of the published projects as soon as the projects are published. You can either apply or for one or more specific projects or you can describe your profile, your interests, your motivation, your expectations and European Heritage Volunteers will try to help you to find (a) suitable project(s).

The more detailed your application is, the better we can support you.

The application should contain in any case application form, curriculum vitae, photo, motivation letter and the time frame of your availability and shall be sent to info@heritagevolunteers.eu. The mentioned documents should be separate files and shoud be sent as attachments to an email; links which require download from a cloud, a website, google drive or similar will not be accepted. The application form can be downloaded here.

There is no deadline for application - participants will be placed till a particular project will be filled.

Please note, that there might be more projects which might be not published on this website - since there is only a limited number of places or since they are due to formal reasons only open for participants with special profile - and which may be in accordance with your wishes.

Reception of applications will not be confirmed.

Selection process, confirmation and visa invitation

From beginning of April the selection process starts which - if the application documents are complete - takes two to three weeks and usually includes a skype interview.

In result, the confrimation of participation will be sent which includes the invoice for the participation fee. The participation fee is to be paid to European Heritage Volunteers within seven days after the confirmation of participation, exclusively by bank account. If the payment will not be undertaken in within that time frame, European Heritage Volunteers is free either to end a reminder - which includes am additional amount of 20 € per project - or to accept - after an additional time of two days to exclude difficulties casued by the bank system - another applicant for the place.

In order to reduce administrative workload a confirmation that the participation fee has been delivered will not be provided. Applicants shall guarantee that the full requested amount will be transferred. In case that the transfereed amount is lower than the requested one Euroepan Heritage Volunteers is free to decide either to request the difference to be paid by bank accoiunt or in cahs on arrival.

If the participant cancels his / her participation for personal reasons the fee will not be reimbursed.

For participants who will need visa European Heritage Volunteers or the project partner will prepare the therefore needed invitation very soon, at the latest within one week after the participation fee has been delivered to European Heritage Volunteers' bank account.

Detailed project information

Seven weeks before the beginning of the volunteering project or training course the Detailed Project Information will be sent to the participants which includes information about the location, the arrival place and time and other details.

From this moment on the participants can book their travel to the project location.

Special regulations due to the situation caused by corona virus

Due to the unpredictable situation caused by corona virus following regulation will be applied:

The European Heritage Volunteers Programme 2020 is planned to take place as published.

Eight weeks before the beginning of every volunteering project or training course European Heritage Volunteers and the particular project partner evaluate the situation. In case that for the dates when the volunteering project or the training course is planned to take place restrictions are expected which do not allow to realise the volunteering project or training course, the project will be postponed towards a later date (refers to volunteering projects and training courses planned for the time between mid of July and mid of August 2020) or towards season 2021 (refers to all volunteering projects and training courses). If no restrictions are expected the volunteering project or training course will take place.

That means that when the participants receive the Detailed Project Information both European Heritage Volunteers and the particular project partner rely that the volunteering project or traning course will take place and they can book their travel.

In case that European Heritage Volunteers and the project partner agree eight weeks before the volunteering project or training course that the risk that the project cannot take place due to corona-caused restrictions (concerning activities exceeding a certain number of people, concerning travel restrictions inside the country or restrictions to enter the country etc.) and the volunteering project or training course will be postponed the participation fee will not be reimbursed, but will be valid as particpation fee for another volunteering project or training course within the European Heritage Volunteers Programme 2020 or 2021. The additional fee of 30 € for volunteering projects or training courses taking place in cities with more than 100.000 inhabitants will be reimbursed - despite the applicant decides to participate in another volunteering project or training course in a city with more than 100.000 inhabitants.

Nevertheless it is not excluded that for a volunteering project or training course for which eigth weeks before its beginning no restrictions have been expected such restrictions will be unexpected invented for the time when it will take place. In this case the above mentioned handling of the participation fee will be applied, too. Please note that neither European Heritage Volunteers nor the project partner will be able to reimburse travel costs, but will try to find pragmatically seen best possible solutions as placing the participant in another project in the same country or region or similar.

In addition, participants are asked to check themselfes before booking their travel if travel restrictions might be expected for the time when the volunteering project or training course will take place - both concerning the departure from their country of residence as concerning the arrival to the project country. If - despite such restrictions did not exist seven weeks before the start of the volunteering project or training course and could not be expected for the time till the end of the volunteering project or training course - such restrictions will be invented and do not allow the applicant to participate at the volunteering project or training course the paid participation fee will be valid for another volunteering project or training course within the European Heritage Volunteers Programme 2020 or 2021 as described above.

Certificate

European Heritage Volunteers provides for every volunteer a confirmation of participation in the particular project. The certificate includes the type, the place and the duration of the project and will be signed by European Heritage Volunteers’ directory.

Depending on the particular Project Partner a joint confirmation of participation signed by European Heritage Volunteers and the Project Partner is possible.

For engagements from six weeks duration onwards European Heritage Volunteers provides on request a qualified certificate.
