When the projects are published?

Most of the projects described on this website will be published till end of February for the upcoming year.

In case that projects will be fixed later they will be published later. The Calendar of Projects will be permanent updated.

World Heritage Volunteers Projects will be publshed when UNESCO World Heritage Centre will have finalised the global selection process what is usually expected to happen till mid of April.

Which costs you have to cover?

At all projects accommodation, food, the educational and cultural programme and the travel costs during the project are covered by European Heritage Volunteers resp. the hosting organisation. Depending on the hosting organisation and the type of the project health insurance, accidence insurance and / or liability insurance might be covered by the hosting organisation, too.

The travel costs to and from the project place have to be covered by the participants.

For European Heritage Volunteers Projects, European Heritage Volunteers Partner Projects and European Heritage Volunteers Training Courses you have to pay a participation fee of 80 € per project to European Heritage Volunteers, but no additional fee to the Project Partner.

The participation fee will be used to support the projects depending on their needs. In average, European Heritage Volunteers provides 85 % of the received participation fees as direct support for the projects. In case that a Partner Project is organised by a economically strong partner in a wealthy - mostly Western European - country European Heritage Volunteers does not provide support; in case that a Partner Project is organised by a partner in a poorer country the support can achieve up to the double amount of all participation fees generated for the particular project.

In addition, European Heritage Volunteers covers the training and the allowance for the Group Corrdinators.

The same regulation counts if you apply for a World Heritage Volunteers Project in Europe through European Heritage Volunteers - you have to pay a participation fee of 80 € to European Heritage Volunteers and no participation fee to the Project Partner itself.

Concerning World Heritage Volunteers Projects outside Europe European Heritage Volunteers is not in the position to influence on the particular projects, therefore it may be in those cases not excluded that the hosting organisation will charge additional participation fee, but you will be informed about that before being placed.

In general, European Heritage Volunteers will neither organise itself, neither support, neither send volunteers to commercial projects.

Where to apply?

You can apply for one or more of the published projects as soon as the projects are published.

For European Heritage Volunteers Projects, European Heritage Volunteers Partner Projects and European Heritage Volunteers Training Courses you shall apply to European Heritage Volunteers.

For World Heritage Volunteers Projects which are not part of the European Heritage Volunteers Programme (and thus not included the Calendar of Projects) you can apply either

  1. through European Heritage Volunteers or
  2. directly to the hosting organisation carrying out the project or
  3. through another organisation in your country ("sending organisation") cooperating with the hosting organisation.

Please note, that not all organisations carrying out World Heritage Volunteers projects outside Europe accept direct applications of volunteers from abroad and request instead of that applications through sending organisations as stated under c. Volunteers applying by a sending organisation have to pay a sending fee. The amount of the sending fee differs between different sending organisations from 90 € to 300 €. The sending fee is not transferred to the hosting organisation, but is used to cover the own administrative costs of the sending organisation or to finance projects in the country of the sending organisation mostly not linked to heritage.
