European Heritage Volunteers offers internship positions in heritage linked fields both in the organisation itself as well as in cooperation with partner organisations and institutions.

Usually, for the internship positions accommodation is provided by the organisation resp. institution offering the internship opportunity. A salary is not paid, but in most of the cases an allowance is paid. The amount of and the conditions for the allowance are differing from internship position to internship position. The intern has a clear defined working task and a person with heritage linked education responsible for the intern. After the internship a qualified certificate will be provided.

The internship usually lasts between four weeks and three months, in most of the cases there is a certain flexibility concerning the exact dates and the duration of the internship.

 

  

Internship 01 / 2024
Support of the realisation of European Heritage Training Courses and European Volunteers Projects as Group Coordinator or as supporter of the Technical Instructors

The intern will support the realisation of European Heritage Training Courses or European Heritage Volunteers Projects by supporting the leading team.

Depending on his / her interests and qualification the intern will either being one of the Group Coordinators take care for the logistical, intercultural and social aspects of the courses resp. projects, either support (only at some of the European Heritage Training Courses or European Heritage Volunteers Projects) the Technical Instructor(s).

Time frame: between July and October 2024
Duration: up to three months, at least four weeks, in exceptional cases (f.e. in case of previous experience as Group Coordinator) also less
Country: countries where the European Heritage Training Course resp. the European Heritage Volunteers Projects take place
Expected qualifications: no formal qualifications needed
Language skills: English; knowledge of the language of the country where the European Heritage Training Course resp. the European Heritage Volunteers Project takes place welcome, but not mandatory
Special conditions:

  • The intern s/he shall take part at the Group Coordinators Training Seminar which will be held from July 15th, (arrival in the evening) to July 19th, (departure in the morning) 2024 near Berlin / Germany. The participation is free of charge; accommodation and meals will be provided by European Heritage Volunteers; travel costs to and from the seminar shall be paid by the intern. In exceptional cases, when a participation at the Group Coordinators Training Seminar will not be possible due to objective reasons, it can be agreed that the intern shall take part in the first European Heritage Training Course resp. European Heritage Volunteers Project as ordinary participant in order to get familiar with European Heritage Volunteers Programme and thus to receive an introduction in his / her tasks.
  • For the European Heritage Training Courses or European Heritage Volunteering Projects where s/he will be active as Group Coordinator or supporter of the Technical Instructor the intern does not pay a participation fee.
  • In addition, for each two-week European Heritage Training Course or European Heritage Volunteers Project for which the intern overtakes (co-)leading responsibility and fulfils this responsibility s/he receives an allowance of 250 €; if the course or project are shorter, a proportionally lower amount. The allowance will be paid by bank transfer immediately after the Project Partners Meeting in November 2024 depending on the feedbacks from the Project Partners.
  • Travel costs between the Group Coordinators Training Seminar and the European Heritage Training Course or between particular European Heritage Training Courses and / or European Heritage Volunteers Projects will not be reimbursed.
  • Accommodation and food will be provided for free in the frame of the European Heritage Training Courses resp. European Heritage Volunteers Projects.
  • Accidence and liability insurance will be provided in all European Heritage Traning Courses and European Heritage Volunteers Projects in Germany and Austria, but not in other countries.
  • Please note, that due to the high request for the internship places, but also in order to enable the interns mentally to recover after having been active as Group Coordinator resp. supporter of the Technical Instructor the intern should usually alternate between one European Heritage Training Course resp. European Heritage Volunteers Project where s/he overtakes responsibility as Group Coordinator resp. supporter of the Technical Instructor and one European Heritage Training Course resp. European Heritage Volunteers Project in which s/he will be an ordinary participant. For European Heritage Training Courses and European Heritage Volunteers Projects where the intern will be ordinary participant the same - structural and financial - regulations count as for the other participants, but the internship certificate will include the whole duration, independently of the fact if the intern has been active in one or the other European Heritage Training Course or European Heritage Volunteers Project as Group Coordinator, as supporter of the Technical Instructor or has been an ordinary participant.      

 

 

Internship 02 / 2024
Photo and video documentation of European Heritage Training Courses and European Heritage Volunteers Projects

The intern will document by video and photo particular European Heritage Training Courses and European Heritage Volunteers Projects throughout Europe.

The video material should have professional quality and shall be used for the promotion of European Heritage Volunteers Programme. From every visited course or project a final result of around eigth to ten minutes length is expected. The task will include either only the shooting, either shooting and post-production.

The photos should have professional quality and shall be used for the extension of the exhibition about the European Heritage Volunteers Programme.

Special conditions:

  • Travel costs between the courses and projects will be reimbursed.
  • For every finalised and approved video of eigth to ten minutes length an allowance of 500 € will be paid - 200 € for the shooting and 300 € for the post-production. 
  • For every finalised and approved collection of photos about the project (at least 30 good quality photos about the site and 50 good quality photos about the European Heritage Training Course resp. the European Heritage Volunteers Project) an allowance of 100 € will be paid. 

 

 

Internship 03 / 2024
Guest Guiding at the exhibition about volunteering for European cultural heritage in Weimar / Germany

At Belvedere Castle Complex in Weimar a permanent exhibition about the European Heritage Volunteers Programme is installed. The exhibition is complemented by videos presenting some of the European Heritage Training Courses and European Heritage Volunteers Projects having taken place during the last years.

The intern will be at the place and available for the visitors of the exhibition, answering their questions concerning the European Heritage Volunteers Programme in general as well as the European Heritage Volunteers Project at the UNESCO World Heritage site "Classical Weimar" in particular. Own contribution concerning related topics as conservation, heritage management, garden architecture and similar is welcome.

Beside that the intern will be involved in the current European Heritage Volunteers Project by providing guided tours for the participants, presenting heritage sites of its country of origin and similar.

The activities of the intern at the exhibition will be include special events on September 8th, which is celebrated in Germany as European Heritage Day.

Special conditions:

  • During the first week the intern will take part at the European Heritage Volunteers Group Coordinators Training Seminar near Berlin to get familiar with the European Heritage Volunteers Programme. During the seminar the intern will be accommodated and will have meals together with other participants.
  • From July, 20th, to August 31th, there will be no accommodation provided, but the intern will receive for this period a contrubution to accommodation costs of 200 € as well as a contribution of 8 € per day to buy his / her food on his / her own.
  • For the last two weeks - during the European Heritage Volunteers Project at the World Heritage site "Classical Weimar" - the intern will be accomodated together with the other participants and will have meals together with them.
  • The intern will receive an allowance of 200 € for the whole duration of the internship.

 

Beside the concrete internship positions which are published above, there might be - depending on the qualification and the interest of the potential intern - other intership positions possible, too.
